MicroTech Sponsored MMA Heavyweight Dominates Ex-Pro Wrestler at UFC 141
In the last MicroTech sponsored UFC event in 2011, Alistair Overeem made quick work of Heavyweight Brock Lesnar and defeated the former professional wrestler Brock Lesnar in the first round at UFC 141 on December 30. The pay-per-view event featured the main card bout of the MicroTech-sponsored former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Overeem in his collision with former UFC Champ Lesnar.
The 31-year-old Overeem is nicknamed the Demolition Man and it showed as his well-known kick boxing power, featuring a series of knees to the body, left Lesnar doubled up on the mat and close to defenseless when referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight in the first round. The opposing camp was well aware of Overeem's striking game and their efforts to move the match to the canvas, where Lesnar would have an advantage, failed and led to the quick TKO. Brock Lesnar was so battered, he announced his retirement immediately after the fight.
MicroTech previously sponsored the 13-year pro Overeem in June of last year at the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament broadcast on Showtime. He is the only fighter in history that has ever held a world title in both MMA and K-1 kickboxing simultaneously.
As a top heavyweight contender, Overeem takes on the champion Junior dos Santos in July.

MicroTech Capture Manager Graduates from Fire School
MicroTech Capture Manager Crystal Eden recently endured five months of grueling and physically demanding training and graduated from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Academy this week. Fairfax County has an international reputation for firefighting and rescue excellence.
The former U.S. Navy Lieutenant J.G. on the USS Boxer, stationed in San Diego, Crystal is ready to assume the role of volunteer firefighter. Her commitment to her training became legendary at MicroTech, working a full day in the office, and then spending late night hours in the classroom or in simulated fire training four days a week.
"It was a surprise to a lot of my...family to hear that, as volunteers, we go through the same training as our career counterparts and are just as likely to be called upon to respond in an emergency," Crystal said.
Crystal will be stationed at the Burke (Virginia) Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (BVFRD).
"Volunteering for BVFRD gives me the opportunity to give back to my community," she said.
"I've been involved in two open houses, which stress the importance…of fire prevention and fire safety. I've gotten to ride the engine on community outreach events like Santa Runs, where we get out into the community... Volunteering with the BVFRD allows me to be a part of something bigger than myself, teaching me that there is much more to life than what is right in front of me."

MicroTech Contributes to Veterans Charity Group
In a ceremony today at MicroTech corporate headquarters, MicroTech CEO Tony Jimenez generously contributed $5,000 to Ken Falke, the Chairman of Boulder Crest Retreat - a proposed not-for-profit country refuge of healing for wounded warriors. Where other American soldiers marched across Snickers Gap in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains 150 years ago in the Civil War, the Boulder Crest Retreat will offer rest and refuge for contemporary American soldiers severely wounded in battle. Located in historic Bluemont, Va., the development is a first-of-its-kind refuge for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) clients.
The brainchild of Boulder Crest Retreat is Falke, a 21-year combat veteran of the U.S. Navy and Founder and Chairman of A-T Solutions. He is retired US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician and highly respected throughout the community.
Ken's proposed 37 acre retreat has a tentative early 2013 planned opening and will offer greentech cabins for weekly stays, a meeting house for day clients, organic gardens and farm-to-table meals, a bird sanctuary and fishing pond, and even therapeutic dogs for companionship. Activities will include onsite adaptive sports like archery, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, tubing and fishing in the Shenandoah River, and hiking, biking and trail rides along the nearby Appalachian Trail. When it opens, Boulder Crest should be able to serve as many as 300 - 500 annually; many from out-patient care at Bethesda Naval Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
"It is our duty to support the nation's wounded patriots as they return to us from distant shores," said MicroTech CEO Tony Jimenez.
"MicroTech's financial donation is one step towards the launch of this special, new care giving facility; one step towards the citizen soldier's return to society."

MicroTech Contributes to Veterans Charity Group
MicroTech has generously contributed $20,000 to the National Association of American Veterans (NAAV), in support of the Fisher House program. The Fisher House Foundation provides a home away from home to military families to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease, or injury.
The check was presented to Constance A. Burns, President & CEO of NAAV in a ceremony at MicroTech Headquarters in Vienna, VA. Her six-year-old Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization works closely with the Veterans Administration (VA) and Department of Defense to provide emergency funds, counseling, training, employment, and housing assistance to severely wounded service members and disabled veterans and their families; in particular single-parent service members.
NAAV extends a helping hand to returning Iraq and Afghanistan combatants, and all the way back to Korean War veterans; most aging WWII veterans are already in senior care programs. Homeless veterans are referred to NAAV via VA case workers. Because of sometime delays in receiving VA disability claims, NAAV steps in to provide emergency funds for housing, food, and other timely needs.
The demand for services is being greatly increased because of the recent stand down of the armed forces in Iraq.
"They are flooding the system," Burns said.
The NAAV program has been working with the Army's Fisher House for a while, and has recently begun to get involved with the Navy version located at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland.
"Throughout my military career and in the years since, I have seen firsthand on several occasions the positive impact of Fisher House" said MicroTech CEO and former decorated Army veteran Tony Jimenez,
"Today's financial donation demonstrates the continued commitment that MicroTech has made to supporting the U.S. Armed Forces and our Wounded Warriors".

The luncheon held last month at Tinker Air Force Base (AFB) in Oklahoma — "Air Force Leadership: Past, Present and Future" — was hosted by the Air Force Association and Logistic Officers Association.

The things that will endure to get us through the rough times in the future are the very basic things about wearing this uniform," Chief McKinley said, as reported by the Tinker AFB newspaper.
"When you go to work, are you going to live by the Air Force core values? Are you going to do the job the very best you can …? Are you going to keep up with military heritage, customs, courtesies and standards? That's how we're going to survive."

"Skyscraper" Struve Towers over Barry for UFC Win
MicroTech sponsored Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight fighter, Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve, won Saturday night at UFC Live in his fight against Pat Barry in what has been called "the most extreme height mismatch" of the year. Struve stands at 6' 11" ® the tallest fighter in the UFC ® and towers over Barry, who stands a full foot shorter.
The Dutchman Struve highlighted a successful night of professional mixed martial arts at the Verizon Center in Washington DC; the first time that an UFC event was held in the District of Columbia.
Just three minutes into the second round, Struve submitted Barry via a classic Triangle Choke Armbar. A proficient kickboxer, Barry successfully landed a few kicks to Struve, but had issues landing any significant punches due to Struve's longer reach. Barry's reach, like his height, added to his ultimate downfall with Struve. Struve's professional record now stands at 22-5-0.
After the fight, Struve earned Submission of the Night honors.

MicroTech Sponsored Heavyweight Upsets "Big Foot" MMA Legend
MicroTech-sponsored Daniel Cormier defeated the fearsome Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva via a TKO last weekend in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals Tournament. Although considered the underdog and a last-minute stand-in, Cormier used his skilled wrestling maneuvers and KO punching techniques to knock out Silva in the first round. Even after he broke his right hand with the very first punch, Cormier was able to make several lethal blows to Silva's jaw, causing him to collapse before he finished him off.
Many attribute Cormier's past as an Olympic wrestling champion, his former MMA titles including XMMA Heavyweight Championship and KOTC Heavyweight Championship, and the ample time has had to develop his skills as a fighter, for the reasons why he is so successful. Many say his style closely resembles MMA legend, an early Chuck Liddell in his uncanny ability to stay on his feet during a match.
In early 2012, Cormier is scheduled to meet former UFC Heavyweight Champ Josh Barnett in the final round of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Tournament.

MicroTech Remembers 9/11 in Corporate Headquarters Ceremony
The headquarters staff of MicroTech, led by CEO Tony Jimenez, gathered together today in the training facility to remember the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on America and its tenth anniversary, just days away.
The ceremony included a short speech by Tony, and the reminiscences of two guests - retired U.S. Army officers Colonel Larry Thomas, and Lt. Col. Curt Nutbrown - both 9/11 Pentagon survivors, caught in the conflagration of hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 as it slammed into the building.
They related to the headquarters staff stories of courage and how seemingly minor circumstances altered their fate; changing seats at a conference room table just seconds before the plane's impact, moving down one corridor instead of another to escape; the difference between living and dying.
For Nutbrown, his experience was life changing and has led to the creation of a nonprofit Heroes Support Brigade, Inc., focused on finding jobs for veterans. Tony Jimenez awarded Nutbrown with a commemorative plaque and a $2500 donation to his organization from MicroTech.
Tony Jimenez is also a 9/11 Pentagon survivor, his office that fateful day just yards from the where the building collapsed. "We weren't naive anymore," said Tony Jimenez, in the Washington Technology article, "How Sept. 11 Changed Government Contracting Forever."
Proposal Writer Eric Vitoff performed an acoustic version of U2's "Walk On" to close out the ceremony.
And if the darkness is to keep us apart
And if the daylight feels like it's a long way off
And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong
Walk on, walk on
What you got they can't steal it
No they can't even feel it
Walk on, walk on...
Stay safe tonight

MicroTech Sponsored UFC Fighter TKOs MMA Legend
MicroTech backed yet another successful mixed martial arts combatant as Rashad "Suga" Evans dominated popular UFC legend Tito Ortiz in the headline main card bout at UFC 133. The win by the former light heavyweight champ opens the door for a shot at the champion Jon Jones.
Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Evans controlled most of the abbreviated match in a convincing fashion, though Ortiz showed a heart of gold by rebounding from some of Rashad's brutal elbows, knees and punches.
The referee stopped the fight in the second round by technical knock-out after Evans stunned Ortiz with a devastating knee to the body.
Evans now turns his sights toward current champ Jones, who will take on Quinton Jackson in September. Rashad held the title as recently as early 2009, but was defeated by Lyoto Machida - his only loss out of 16 matches. Evans' professional record now stands at 16-1-1.
Rashad Evans is a 31-year-old fighter fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla., and has had a solid longtime relationship with MicroTech, visiting corporate headquarters last year in support of one of the company-hosted wounded patriots events.

MicroTech Subject Matter Experts Discuss Contract Bundling Issues
MicroTech's Senior Vice President for Capture and Proposals, Bill Lytle, and Senior Vice President of Contracts and General Counsel, Aaron Drabkin, were quoted on Friday in the Washington Business Journal on the topic of "bundled" mega-contracts.
The article discusses the difficulties that smaller businesses are currently having with "bundled" contracts. These types of contracts combine multiple, often disjointed, requirements of services and can typically only be managed by a larger company. Hence, these contracts either eliminate smaller contractors completely or decrease the smaller company's role into more of a secondary role as subcontractors. As a result many small businesses' opportunities in which they are equipped to bid on are becoming increasingly more limited.
In the article, Aaron Drabkin stated, "Agencies are heavily overloaded and often take the easier route to get the job done, which I understand. But that makes it much more difficult for us to gain access."
Bill Lytle followed Drabkin's statement and added, "Many times we've found ourselves as the prime contractor on a small business opportunity, only to see the agency take an easier acquisition route, leaving us to then jockey for a position on someone else's team."

MicroTech CEO Speaks at Government Contracting Issues Forum
MicroTech CEO Tony Jimenez spoke yesterday at the AFCEA Bethesda Roundtable about the topic, "Budget Uncertainty as the New Normal." As a featured panelist, Tony addressed several issues regarding how small businesses can survive the effects of the current economic downturn and ongoing budget battle.
Small businesses that are contractors have been looking for answers to important questions like "Is this the new reality of business in the Federal government?" In his talk, Tony addressed issues like this and answered questions that included "What are some of the best practices for small businesses operating in the current economic environment?"
He pointed out that the recently enacted Dodd-Frank Act requires nearly 30 agencies that oversee the financial system to establish offices of minority inclusion to monitor diversity within their ranks, and in the group of contractors who provide goods and services to the government. The act simply aims to bring players with differing backgrounds into the government contracting marketplace.
Now every minority-owned firm in the Washington region has a chance to benefit, with the provision offering them a way to reap millions of dollars in new annual revenue. The effort will be good for minority contractors. More competition, ultimately, will save the government and the taxpayers footing the bill.
Panelists joining Tony included government officials and other contractors. Earlier this month, CNN visited MicroTech headquarters to interview Tony about the debt ceiling crisis and how it could potentially affect the industry

As a supporter of the class for the past five years, Bill has mentored one individual student each semester by answering any questions that they have about the war.

MicroTech CEO Represents Contracting Community on Possible Government Shutdown
MicroTech CEO Tony Jimenez was quoted today by CNN on how government contractors will deal with the potential Federal government shutdown on Friday. He told CNNMoney.com that the unique possibility of the government budget running out was "not something you build into your business plan."
The article pointed out that MicroTech employees work onsite daily at a number of key Federal agencies like the Department of Defense (DoD), Social Security Administration (SSA) and Veterans Affairs (VA), and are in the dark about next week. MicroTech Employees Donate to Pakistan Flood Relief Effort
MicroTech CEO Tony Jimenez presented HR Manager Abida Malik this week with a generous donation on behalf of the organization's support of the Pakistan flood victims. Pakistan was hit this summer by the worst natural disaster in its history. Reports show about 21 million people were left homeless, with one million homes destroyed - more than the combined total of people affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, and the 2010 quake in Haiti.
With the generous contributions and support of MicroTech employees, $2000 dollars was raised to help the victims of this tragedy. Tony Jimenez matched all personal employee contributions, which included donations associated with the Lady Gaga concert raffle.
Abida has family friends that were directly impacted by the disaster; their home town of Akora Khattak (pop. 300) was devastated. Fortunately the friends survived; their residence is still standing and has become the temporary home for nearly 150 of their less fortunate neighbors. MicroTech's charitable contribution will go a long way in relieving the misery of the residents of Akora Khattak.
